The Cranberry Faith Alliance, in partnership with the Cranberry Foundation, invites the community to come together for the annual National Day of Prayer on Wednesday, May 7, on the Armstrong Great Lawn at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center.
Observed nationwide, the National Day of Prayer is a longstanding American tradition that dates back to the Second Continental Congress, even before the Declaration of Independence. In 1952, the observance was officially established by law under President Harry S. Truman, and in 1988, President Ronald Reagan designated the first Thursday in May as its permanent date. In 2025, 60,000 events were held across all 50 states.
Cranberry Township's gathering – hosted by the Cranberry Faith Alliance, formerly known as the Council of Churches – offers individuals of all faiths an opportunity to pause, reflect, and unite in a shared moment of hope and purpose for the community.
The one-hour program will begin at noon, welcoming guests to explore prayer stations set throughout the Armstrong Great Lawn. At 12:30 p.m., attendees will join in a moment of silence, creating a powerful collective pause for the common good.
Following the moment of reflection, the Seneca Valley School District’s Madrigal Singers will perform. The select ensemble of 20 auditioned students specializes in a cappella madrigal music from the 15th and 16th centuries, as well as other chamber-choir pieces.
Community members are encouraged to attend this peaceful and inclusive event, connect with neighbors, and take part in a tradition that continues to bring people together across generations.
