For more than four decades, Bonnie S. Carmichael dedicated her career to helping students discover the joy of reading and the power of knowledge. After receiving her Master of Library Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh, Bonnie served as a school librarian at Shelby High School in Shelby, Ohio; Teays Valley Middle School in Ashville, Ohio; and Avonworth High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Libraries were always more than workplaces for Bonnie; they were places of possibilities, where students could find their voices, expand their horizons, and feel a sense of belonging. Colleagues and former students alike remember Bonnie’s unwavering passion for connecting young people with the right book at the right time, and for fostering a love of lifelong learning.
In retirement, Bonnie continues that legacy by establishing the Bonnie S. Carmichael Library Endowment. This fund helps to ensure that the Cranberry Public Library will remain a vibrant, welcoming space for generations to come. Where curiosity is nurtured, resources are accessible to all, and learning never ends.
Through this endowment, Bonnie’s lifelong devotion to libraries and education lives on, enriching the Cranberry Township community and inspiring discovery for generations to come.
